Porsche Design and the watch platform Hodinkee are launching a collaboration with the Chronograph 1 - Hodinkee 2024 Edition, the first model in a planned trilogy.

Since the introduction of the Chronograph I in 1972, designed by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, Porsche Design watches have stood for timeless design and the highest quality. F. A. Porsche, who also designed the legendary Porsche 911, aimed to create a timepiece that was unmistakably inspired by the automobile and offered maximum functionality. The result was the world’s first wristwatch to be completely black – a clear break with the tradition at the time of designing watches in silver or gold.

Porsche Design Chronograph 1 Hodinkee 2024 Edition: The start of a trilogy
This revolutionary precision instrument turned the watch industry on its head by focussing on functionality and readability – much like the cockpit of the Porsche 911. “The status of an icon is based on its heritage.” When it was launched in 1972, the Chronograph I was way ahead of its time and initially sparked controversy. Today, it is considered a timeless classic.

Homage to the original – the Hodinkee 2024 Edition
The Porsche Design Chronograph 1 – Hodinkee 2024 Edition is limited to 350 pieces worldwide and combines the timeless design of the 1970s with state-of-the-art technology. The case is made of ultra-robust, lightweight titanium and has a highly scratch-resistant titanium carbide coating. The closed case back bears the historic Porsche Design icon, the brand lettering and the limited edition number (XXX/350). In addition, the Hodinkee lettering, the Hodinkee icon (H), the year “2024” and the engraving “TRILOGY – CHAPTER 1” are engraved, making this special edition the first model in the partnership with Hodinkee.

The black titanium strap, inspired by the original design of the Chronograph I, offers a comfortable fit and secure hold thanks to a folding clasp with titanium safety pushers. A quick-change mechanism also allows the strap to be replaced without tools.

This edition is a tribute to the fans of Porsche Design and Hodinkee in Japan, where Hodinkee founded its first sister publication. The chronograph is equipped with a mechanical, bilingual day display in English and Japanese.

Vintage character meets modern precision
The chronograph offers optimum readability even in the dark, as the hour and minute hands, hour indices and minute track are coated with special Super-LumiNova® luminous material. This creates a patina effect that is modelled on the aged indices made of radium and tritium and gives the watch an extraordinary vintage character.

Other special features include the tachymeter scale with historic “1 Mile” graphic on the rehaut, inspired by Hodinkee’s US roots, and the “H” at 6 o’clock, which is in Porsche Design’s characteristic red colour from 1972. The iconic matt black dial also bears the historic Porsche Design lettering and the brand icon – a tribute to the original from 1972.

The perfect symbiosis of sports car DNA and the art of watchmaking
Whether on the race tracks of Le Mans, the Nürburgring-Nordschleife or at the Paris-Dakar Rally – Porsche has made motorsport history on the most demanding courses. The handcrafted chronograph from Porsche’s own watch manufactory in Solothurn, Switzerland, transports this legend into the world of watchmaking. The COSC-certified Porsche Design calibre WERK 01.140 guarantees maximum precision and reliability, comparable to the performance of the iconic Porsche sports cars.
